From Texas State University
National Book Award winner Robert Stone will give readings 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24 at Texas State University-San Marcos and 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 25 at the Katherine Anne Porter House in Kyle.
The reading will be held in the Southwestern Writers Collection on the 7th floor of the Alkek Library on campus. The event is sponsored by the Therese Kayser Lindsey Chair of Literature at Texas State in conjunction with the English Department and the Katherine Anne Porter Literary Center. The readings are free and open to the public.
Stone is the author of seven novels, the National Book Award-winning Dog Soldiers, A Hall of Mirrors, A Flag for Sunrise, Children of Light, Outerbridge Reach, Damascus Gate and Bay of Souls. He has also published a story collection, Bear and His Daughter. His most recent work is the memoir Prime Green: Remembering the Sixties.
Stone was born in Brooklyn in 1937, attended Catholic schools but did not graduate from high school and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1955. After the Navy he lived in New York for a couple of years and in 1962 won a Stegner fellowship to the creative writing program at Stanford University. He currently lives in New York City.
