STAFF REPORT

San Marcos police arrested a San Marcos man today they say robbed two convenience stores this morning and Sunday evening at gunpoint.

Robert Daniel Ramirez Jr, 20, of San Marcos was taken into custody about 1 a.m. after being pulled over by police as he was speeding away from the Quix convenience store at 1004 N. Interstate 35.

At 8:33 p.m. Sunday, police responded to an alarm at the Sac N Pac store at 1200 Texas 80 where a clerk told them the store had been robbed by a man wearing a stocking over his face and carrying a handgun. At 1 a.m. Monday, police received a report of another armed robbery, this time at the Quix store.

San Marcos police officer Robert Elrod responded to the scene and saw a maroon Chevrolet passenger car leaving the parking lot at a high rate of speed. Officer Elrod conducted a traffic stop on this vehicle and identified the driver as Ramirez.

Ramirez was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery and is currently being held in the Hays County Law Enforcement Center under a $20,000 bond. Aggravated Robbery is a first-degree felony punishable by five to 99 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Detectives with the San Marcos Police Department are continuing their investigation of the robberies and believe that Ramirez may be responsible for other robberies that have taken place in the area over the past few weeks.
