Texas State team finishes first in Siemens Competition

A team of high school students from Texas State University’s Honors Summer Math Camp won first place last week at the Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology.
Mentored by mathematics professor Jian Shen, the group presented a project titled, “Relating Missing and Decycling Edges in Directed Graphs.” Kevin Chen of Sugar Land, Sean Karson of Winter Park, Fla. and Dan Liu of austin will share the $100,000 scholarship attached to the award.
The team beat out winners from five other regions in national competition at New York University in December. They are fourth Texas State team to reach the national finals and the first to win.
