Third time the charm for Determan

Tenley Determan set a new school record in the 10,000 meters when she completed the race in 37:10.51 at the 50th Annual Mt. SAC Relays. It marks the third time that Determan has run in a 10,000-meter race during her career.

Her time broke the former record of 37:10.66 that was set by Sonia Garza in 1998, and improved her previous career best time by 1:21.55. Her previous best time was 38:22.46 in 2007.

Determan finished with the 17th-fastest collegiate time in the race that was won by Jacky Kipwamgbok of Azusa Pacific with a time of 34:37.25.

Texas State also posted its best time of the season in the men’s 4×400-meter relay when the Bobcats won their University Open race with a time of 3:12.06. Texas State had its previous best time of 3:12.12 at the Texas Relays on April 5. Weber State finished second in the race with a time of 3:16.48 and Minnesota State Mankato finished in third place with a time of 3:16.89.

Liat Anav also had a sixth-place finish in the third heat of the women’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.96. Kasey Haywood of Oregon had the fastest time heading into Saturday’s final with 1:00.06.

The remaining members of Texas State’s track and field teams will also compete at the Texas Twilight Meet at Austin on Saturday.
