From Hays CISD

Nine campuses in Hays CISD earned Gold Performance Acknowledgements (GPA) from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for high performance on indicators other than those used to determine accountability ratings.

The district received a total of 28 GPAs for 2008, said John Thornell, Hays CISD Executive Director of Assessment. Middle schools led the recognition.

Chapa Middle School earned the most GPAs, with five, he said, including commended performance for reading, writing and social studies and comparable improvement for reading and math.

Barton, Dahlstrom and Wallace middle schools each received four GPAs, he said.

Elm Grove and Negley elementary schools each received three GPAs, Buda Elementary and Hays High School each received two GPAs, and Fuentes Elementary received one GPA.

Indicators include commended performance on TAKS, college admissions tests and Advanced Placement exams. There are 14 categories in which a GPA can be earned at the campus level. Of the 7,517 campuses evaluated in Texas, 81 percent earned one or more GPA.
