A Hays County jury has sentenced a San Marcos man to 200 years in prison after finding him guilty of sexually assaulting his former girlfriend’s two children when they were between the ages of nine and 15.

Gregory Anthony Rodriguez, 31, was convicted on 13 counts including aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child and, on Friday, the same jury handed down sentences ranging from 10 to 30 years. District Judge Jack Robison has yet to decide if the sentences will run concurrently or consecutively.

“These cases are always heartbreaking. They’re difficult to try because they involve such sad situations,” said assistant district attorney Larry Bloomquist, who prosecuted the case.

Now 15 and 18 years old, the girls were assaulted between 2001 and 2005 while Rodriguez dated their mother.  When they started to see each other again, one of the girls told a classmate and a teacher who reported the abuse to authorities, Bloomquist said.

Rodriguez still faces similiar charges in Caldwell County stemming from a period when the family moved to a portion of the San Marcos area that falls in Caldwell County.
