KYLE – The Kyle City Council wants to call an Aug. 9 special election to replace former Councilmember Mike Moore, who resigned last month.

The council passed the election date Tuesday night on first reading. The second reading, which will make it official, is to occur at the May 20 meeting. The special election would meet, by 12 days, the city charter requirement that elections to fill vacant council seats be held within 120 days.

Moore resigned to give more energy to his family and employment. After serving two terms on the council, Moore decided to not run for re-election in 2003. However, he ran again in 2006 and won a run-off election against Michelle Lopez, who won a term on the council one year ago.

Filing has begun for candidates wishing to run for Moore’s seat, with a deadline of June 3. Kyle City Secretary Amelia Sanchez said no one had filed as of Thursday, though she received a couple inquiries over the telephone.

Meanwhile, another seat on the Kyle Council is up for vote today as Dan Ekakiadis, who represents the city’s western district, takes on challenges from David Wilson and Eric Franklin.
