A Buda man and a San Marcos woman are being held in the Hays County jail for carjacking a vehicle at gunpoint Monday afternoon at Prime Outlets.

Their names were not being released as of Monday evening pending magistration.

At about 3:15 Monday, a 20-year-old Buda man approached a 37-year-old San Antonio woman and her three-year-old son near her vehicle, pointed a gun at the victim and demanded the keys to her 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe. The suspect fled in the vehicle. The victim and her son were uninjured and she called 911.

Police officers spotted the vehicle in the vicinity of Interstate 35 and Texas 80 occupied by two subjects. The suspects fled north on on Texas 21, passing vehicles and two school buses.

The high speed chase ended when San Marcos police used the Pursuit Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to forcefully stop the vehicle near High Road in Hays County.

The man, a prison parolee, is charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, a first degree felony, and one cout of evading arrest in a vehicle, a third-degree felony. The woman, a 24-year-old San Marcos resident, is charged with theft under $500 for an unrelated shoplifting incident at the outlet malls. She also had other outstanding warrants.

Authorities say more charges may be filed later.

A spokesperson for Prime Outlets released a statement referring questions to San Marcos police.
