The deadline is fast approaching for Pedernales Electric Cooperative members to cast their vote in the hotly contested board of directors election. Mail-in and internet votes must be postmarked no later than June 12; if members miss that deadline, they may vote in person at the co-op’s annual meeting in Johnson City on June 20.

Three seats on the seven-person PEC board are up for grabs — Districts 1, 6 and 7 — and co-op members may vote for one candidate in each district.

Most members know very little about the people who are on the ballot. Luckily, there are sources of information and endorsements available on the internet. Here are two: pec4u.org and pec4u.org/candforum09 who have posted information that could help voters decide their choices.

Another excellent information source is David Allen Hall, the Blanco-based attorney who has played a key role in leading the fight to clean up the PEC ‘s business practices. Members should address their questions via e-mail to David@DavidHallAttorney.com.

Anyone who has misplaced the PEC ballot can request a replacement by calling Election Services Corporation at 866-720-4367 or by e-mailing pechelp@electionservicescorp.com.

I’ve been following events within the PEC for over two years, and I hope this information will help voters make their decision. The important thing, of course, is mail your ballot by June 12.
