Hays County Judge Elizabeth Sumter signed an emergency order this morning reinstating the burn ban that prohibits outdoor burning, effective immediately.

“Our citizens should be commended for the cautious approach they have taken over the last several weeks while burning was allowed; however, the drought index has risen to a high level and we need to reinstate the ban as a precaution,” Sumter said. “This burn ban is a preventative approach rather than a reaction to any recent fire incident, and we have our citizens to thank for that.”
