Former council member Guerrero takes helm of San Marcos Education Foundation

Former San Marcos City Council member Daniel Guerrero will serve as the San Marcos Education Foundation’s executive director beginning July 1.
He was chose from more than 35 applicants for the position. As executive director, he will oversee fund raising development and strategic planning to for the non-profit endowment associated with the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District.
Guerrero is a San Marcos High School and Texas State university graduate; he will graduate in December with a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership and Ethics from St. Edward’s university.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to help cultivate relationships with leaders who are prepared to invest in the success of our students and teachers,” Guerrero said. “While it will be my responsibility to help raise money to enrich teaching and inspire learning, it is my personal goal to also raise the aspirations and dreams of our current and future leaders.”
Board President Margaret Lindsey said, “He will be working full time on behalf of the San Marcos Education Foundation, bringing with him great enthusiasm and many new ideas. Our Board is looking
forward to seeing him take the foundation to the next level.”
The San Marcos Education Foundation is a nonprofit, tax-exempt corporation that raises money to fund programs that include innovative teaching grants and scholarships.
The foundation’s board is comprised of Paul E. Neilson, Development vice presient; Rene Ruiz, Alumni Affairs vice president; Administration vice president Barrie Breed; Immediate Past President Fred Markham; directors Paul Valdez and John Navarrette; and treasuer Jeff Ault. San Marcos CISD Superindendent Dr. Patty Shafer is the board secretery.
