At the end of another record-setting season, the Associated Press named Texas State wide receiver Cameron Luke as a Third Team All-American, making this the second straight year when the Bobcats placed an AP All-American.

The Texas State Bobcats took a first-round elimination from the NCAA football playoffs with a 31-13 loss at Montana Saturday as the Grizzlies held Texas State to nearly 100 yards below its average offensive yardage.

Texas State put four players on the All-Southland Conference football first team and five more on the second team.

With their win Saturday against Nicholls State and McNeese State’s win against Northwestern State, the Texas State Bobcats are going to the NCAA football playoffs and winning the Southland Conference if they win this weekend at Sam Houston.

The Texas State football team is in it for big game as it plays Nicholls State today at Bobcat Stadium. With wins in their last two games and one Northwestern State loss, the Bobcats would win the Southland Conference and go to the NCAA playoffs. But head coach Brad Wright, by the way, isn’t satisfied.

The Southland Conference’s decision this week to not award its football championship to Central Arkansas makes the crown more accessible to Texas State, which would be a feather in the university’s cap as it tries to win promotion to bowl-level college football.

The Texas State Bobcats played 30 minutes about as well as they could play football Saturday, marking up a 38-24 road win against Southeastern Louisiana and moving back into a tie for playoff position in the Southland Conference.

After the Texas State Bobcats play football today at Southeastern Louisiana, they can either be right back in a tie for the playoff lead, or they can fall two games off that pace with two games left.

The Texas State Bobcats lost at home Saturday, 34-31 in overtime to Northwestern State. But the Southland Conference football race is so tight right now that it’s hard to figure out what that means.
